David Roupell

About the Artist

'David Roupell is becoming known for the unique vision and the precise, crisp execution of his work.'

I felt good when I heard that. It was someone kindly speaking at the opening of an exhibition.

Creative inspiration? From anybody who creates anything one can get lost or found in.
So many...my parents took me to the Louvre and Palace of Versailles as a boy, I recall leaving quite stunned at the splendour, and then spending the next three weeks drawing pictures of Louis X1V furniture. We also went to that amazing Dutch gallery surrounded by a moat, the artworks in there were like photos, fabulous.

Out The Window

Jan 2006 to June 2006
Digital on Canvas/Paper
69 X 52

Jesus is walking out of his stained glass window. He has had enough. Seen too much insanity going on in his name. Is leaving the building for other living treasures to hang in. Limited adition of 50. Each work signed, numbered and dated by the artist.

Farewell Floyd

Jan 2005 to June 2006
Digital on Canvas/Paper
80 X 75cm

The mega band, Pink Floyd. This image contains 35 song images. A tribute to 40 years of music. Inspired by an article in La Parisienne magasine, David Gilmour was asked if there'd be another reunion...'No, this is the end for Pink Floyd.' I was struck by the terminal profundity of the comment, and felt rather sad about the passing of an icon. Limited adition of 50. Each work signed, numbered and dated by the artist.

Simsimella Tree

2006
digital on paper/canvas
100 X 100

The great inspirer - and destroyer. Limited adition of 50. Each work signed, numbered and dated by the artist.

Storm over mountains

2006
Ink and brushes on paper
39 X 46 cm

We were sitting having a picnic by the lake, watching the storm break over the mountains. Then the strawberries kicked in and we thought we saw one take off like a rocket. We were traveling abroad at the time. Limited adition of 50. Each work signed, numbered and dated by the artist.

Spring

2006
digital on paper/canvas
80 X 80 cm

Spring flower bloom. As does our hope, for a few minutes. Limited adition of 50. Each work signed, numbered and dated by the artist.

Ice Age

2005
digital
60 X 35

Ice Age
A magical world made of ice. Ah but global warming is changing all that. Limited adition of 50. Each work signed, numbered and dated by the artist.

Passengers of Time

2005/6
digital palette
91 X 95

Transit passengers, that's all we are. Here today, gone tomorrow. Century by century everything changes and everything stays the same. Historical figures mix with fantasy figures, stealth bombers, soldiers, flowers, paving stones morphing into computers, daughters, grandson, Hussar on horse, Mongul warrior, Jesus, Sleeping Beauty, Harry Potter, Merlin the magician, market sellers, street traders, Napoleon and Josephine, these are some of the players in Passengers of Time. Limited adition of 50. Each work signed, numbered and dated by the artist.

Digital Palette
70 X 50cm

Target Heartfin
Getting to the heart of the matter. Featuring Byron Bay and its many sides.

Birds in Paradise

2007
Digital drawing
70 X 85

Birds in Paradise
Deliberately avoided tools to draw the curves, did them by hand as in the old days, giving the work an authentic, human, less than perfect finish. Lots of birds in this, can you see the peace dove?

The Fight

2006
digital palette
60 X 42

The Fight
The Fight, to keep the heart strong in the face of so much mindless shallow twaddle. A constant battle.

Oceana

2005/6
digital palette
70 X 52

Oceana
We live in a beautiful ocean of...

If life was a game of chess, we would basically focus on one person

Returning

2006
photodigital artwork
66X55

Wherever we go, we always return home. If we have one. The saucer here is returning deep into the jungle where it's occupants find the peace and solitude they need to deal with the rest of the garbage going on out there.

Waiting for the wind

2007
Digital palette
105 X 75

Waiting for the wind
The ships are stuck in the magnificent hills of the quinkermarine gulf, waiting on the wind's return to their sails.

One can see in this picture the earth's minerals being sucked out of the ground and turned into jewels and giant skyscrapers. For better or worse...

Full bloom of flowers, inside and outside the crystal sphere.

Climate Change

A beautiful garden, being ruined by greed and ignorance. Such is the stupidity of mankind.

Education and biography
Newells - Horsham Sussex
Wells House - Malvern Wells
Grenville College - Bideford
The Mill - Clymping Sussex
Worthing Art College
Goudhurst Detention Centre
Sydney Tafe College

Computer 'art' has a justifiably dubious reputation these days as people use software gimmickry to create images. For me Photoshop is a modern sophisticated palette with exciting possibilities. Used the same way as a normal palette (brushes+colour) artworks created with this digital tool often take just as long to complete as their brush on canvas cousins!

These artworks are owned and exhibited in Australia, USA, UK, Asia and Europe.

Future shows
Interest in the images sees the options increasing. Prestige client base growing since Saatchi interest in 05.
Am active on the internet, several sites have my images. Here's one. http://david-roupell.busythumbs.com/

Future?......Well, there's every chance one could die penniless and unrecognised until great great grandchildren discover a room full of dusty works and present them as priceless antiques to a stunned world. They will make gazzillions and spend the rest of their lives driving all over the universe on holidays with their extended families in the latest luxury 12 seater personal space shuttles.
