| About the Artist |
In 1976 Richard Titlebaum, a
native Bostonian, (Born 1939)
retired as an English
Professor to devote himself
full- time to painting. Before
this date he taught literature
at Harvard, the University of
California at Berkeley, the
University of Haifa, and the
University of Witwatersrand.
Since that date he has
participated in 302 juried
art fairs and 47 museum and
gallery exhibitions in 27
states and won 48 awards for
painting. His paintings are in
collections such as the Fogg
Art Museum and the Miami City
Hall.
Richard Titlebaum has lived an
unusual life and his art shows
it. Long-term residences in
Haiti, the Caves of Matala and
the Greek Isles, South Africa,
Gomera, Israel and Egypt; a
lifelong interest in the
occult and mystical
perception; anthropologically
a student of religious
movements and cults; the
librarian for five years of a
Harvard library; the author of
numerous publications: these
are only a few of the
ingredients behind the
creation of Titlebaum' s
paintings.
