|
Richard was born in Stone Mountain, Georgia in 1980. The son of a distracted construction worker and a devoted mother, his unexpected artistic nature emerged early when he began painting at the age of six. His first painting Circle, Square, and Triangle won him the first of many awards. He continued painting without training until he reached sixteen. Soon afterwards Richard was introduced to the theater where he sharpened his skills in set design and scenic painting - working on massive thirty foot backdrops.
Richard then studied painting at the University of Georgia where he met his muse and model, the writer Memoree Joéllé, and after a romantic courtship they married. They moved to New York, where Richard cultivated his skills by copying paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and studying at the New York Academy of Art, where he earned a Masters in Fine Art in painting. He has worked as a painter for Jeff Koons and a studio assistant to Odd Nerdrum. He now works and teaches in New York City and Paris, France.

| About the Artist |
Richard's greatest influences are Rembrandt, Victor Hugo, Turner and Goya. His figurative work draws upon memories, dreams, and reality to create a haunting world of poetic myth. His exploration into the intangible and the transcendental was born of a fascination with the magical realist literature of Jorge Luis Borges in which the borders between reality/philosophy, mimesis/temporality merge into a fluid form of expression. |
