Viktor Timofeev

About the Artist

One of the primary concerns in my work is reflection of the spirit of contemporary society, as manifested through the architectural practice and the very action of building itself. My paintings and drawings depict the violent and fascistic potential of architectural act, as an expressive gesture that is a cultural marker of contemporary society.

Break 4
This piece takes the cruciform, an icon vastly used in early, heroic 20th century architectural projects (Le Corbusier's Plan Voisin, Mies' Barcelona Pavillion's chrome cruciform supports) and depicts the structure that is projected from this footprint, mid-destruction. The skin of the curtain walls covers only 3 stories, and the elemental, primary pallete horizontal beams walk the line between a literal, structural framework and a poetic, non-literal representation of the spirit of the structure itself.
