Cathy Bartels

About the Artist

My new work is based on my screenplay including words and music references from it:

"LET THE MUSIC START (SOUNDSCAPE IN BLUE)"
by Cathy Bartels

A STYLISH DRAMA, feature screenplay (109 pps)

MUSIC, AS ELUSIVE OF DESCRIBING AS LOVE.

LET THE MUSIC START (SOUNDSCAPE IN BLUE), a stylish drama set in present day Los Angeles, California and Laguna Beach, California, weaves through the contemporary art and music worlds.

This screenplay is in the rewrite stage.

Mixed Media Wall Pieces:
Screenplay Series ~ NOW SHOWING!

I've received GOOD COVERAGE from Bigel . Mailer Films, a production company in New York City. They are currently Bigel Entertainment,Los Angeles, CA & Michael Mailer Film, New York, NY

"The premise is certainly original."
"The script works well in deconstructing Lila through the filtered sounds of the radio as the songs and lyrics reflect her moods and situations."
"The dialogue caters very well to the overall hip syncopated beats of the script."
"The script follows the beat of the music played by the DJs as they stalk Lila. She is at the center. ... everyone is watching her."
"The DJs talk in music code as does Lila... Hip jiving DJ speak becomes the style and vernacular of almost every offbeat conversation."
"The script becomes hyper reflexive. Lila talks about her life as a script, "Is this the balcony scene?"..."
"The double-reflexivity (radio reflecting Lila's life and Lila's life reflecting the script to be a movie..."
"Really hardcore music buffs would definitely get a kick out of an in depth life is music script like this..."

The soundtrack (& film) to include music by artists such as BOB DYLAN (performs music & acts), The Eels, Jeff Buckley, Golden Smog (Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, some of the Jay Hawks, and Jackob Dylan) (performs), Bettie Serveert (performs), The Chemical Brothers, Beth Orton (performs), Skylab, Acacia, David Holmes, Beck (performs), Elliot Smith, Finely Quaye, Gustavo Santaolalla, World Party (performs), The Orb, Zap Mama (performs), Tom Waits, Gus Gus, Radiohead, Bjork, Zero 7, Massive Attack, Alpha, Tindersticks, Silk 130, Joseph Arthur, Belle & Sebastian and Eighty Mile Beach.
More artists that would fit the groove of the screenplay would be: Nick Cave, Sigur Ros, Groove Armada, Mr. Scruff, Teddy Thompson, Richard Thompson, Pete Yorn, Pavement, Coldplay, Various Artists on Hi-Fidelity Dub, Throwing Muses,Thievery Corporation, India.Arie,Isabellas of Emeryville, CA and The Sweet Nothings of Berkeley, CA...
