| Christina Oiticica |
| |
1951
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Since 2003, after many trips to Europe, Christina Oiticica decided to divide her time between the Pyreneans in Southwestern France and Rio de Janeiro, where, with much inspiration, she has developed her work even more, with nature.

| About the Artist |
My work is affected, inevitably, by having been in close contact with nature.
My work is the opposite of man’s course, leaving home, the cave and returning to nature; a pilgrim’s work.
Humans deal with space. We can move around, we are free in space. Plants deal with time, and have a far greater existence. Plants are free in time. They are capable of interrupting the seed’s germination, which is in fact an interrupted pregnancy, in order to germinate at a favourable time.
When I leave my work in the fields, forests and dry riverbeds, it not only captures the physical, spatial element, but also the energetic element. When it is in nature, it begins to identify with it, and to react to this body.
The intention in my work is to go beyond the four walls protecting it, to use space and go beyond. Go beyond the four walls and be affected by the conditions of time, by circumstances, as Ortega y Gasset puts it.

Gaïa's Portal
2004 - 2005 71 x 56 |
|
I left this painting - a reinterpretation of the birth of Venus- a year inside a tree trunk in the Amazonian Jungle. |
Bêtania n° 3- front
2004 - 2005 50 x 36,5 |
|
I buried a series of paintings at the catholic community of Betânia. When I retrieved them, a year later, I noticed that the interference of Nature was very strong. That's why, when I expose them I like showing the front and the back of the painting. |
Bêtania n°3 - back
2004 - 2005 50 x 36,5 |
|
This is the back of the previous painting. I was seduced by the arabesque of roots and colour. |
Katukina Heart - front
2004 - 2005 80 x 65 |
|
I left two canvases in the land of the Katukina indians. When I found them, I felt as if the energy of this place wanted to consume completely the works. |
Immaculate Conception Heart
2004 - 2005 Mixed technique 80 x 65 cm |
|
The feminine face of God, buried for a year in Amazonia. |
