Vanessa Wenwieser

About the Artist

In September 2005, she won both a Finalist and a Bronze Award in the London Photographic Awards in the categories Urbanscape and Urbanscape with Figures.

As a member of the Society of Scottish Artists, Vanessa exhibited some of her works in last years annual exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy building and has participated in exhibitions in Glasgow (Lloyds TSB, Streetlevel Photoworks, The Mansfield Park Gallery etc.), Edinburgh’s Amber Roome Gallery and in London in association with corbettProjects and photodebut, a group that supports, promotes and connects ambitious photographers, where she is the Director of Events.
Her work has also been shown at various Art Fairs such as artLondon, the London Art Fair and for the last two years at the Glasgow Art Fair. She also has been shown at the Affordable Art Fair in London and at the AAF in New York . Currently her work can be seen at the City Inn, Glasgow until the 15th of June 2006.

Her images are about travelling and being immersed in different cultures and involve the symbolism of the past, present and future of the city environment through the observation of streets, factories and graveyards. It teaches us about different cultures, beliefs and heritages. It shows us how the city changes through time and how the symbols of the past merge with a new modern environment.
Her images are moody and atmospheric; the wet on the windows gives her images a painterly and poetic feel. Many images are taken from above which enhances the feeling of being removed from the everyday, reflecting upon humanity and the cyclical nature of life, further sublimated by the city- lights reflected in the rain and snow.
