1974, Riga, USSR

| About the Artist |
Dyomin Sergey was born at 19 April, 1974, in Riga, Latvia.
Family: father - lawyer, mother – economist. Greatly influenced made by his grandfather the former military, Sergey keeps warm memories about grandfather’s visiting especially in a summers.
“I went to school from 7 years. It was a special boarding school for children with physical and mental disabilities. I was in a boarding school because the doctors discovered I had an early stage of scoliosis, so I spent 3 years of my life with children different from my physical and mental shape. I have no bad memories of the time, at least my normality allowed me to be the best in the school and in sports. I returned to Riga in 10 years and entered the normal school. There I was very disappointed in myself, because there where I was the first in a boarding school, in a normal school I was almost last. But I was able to finish school in 1991 with normal valuations. Only because of the fact that my achievements in the history have been outstanding, I decided to study the history and philosophy at the University of Latvia. I finished the study in 4 years, but did not know what to do next, because the history did not interest me anymore. Something inside me say’ that it’s not right way. I decided to study in the college of jewellery arts, while financial situation of my parents allowed me to do it. It was a first step from casual boring life to the colourful artist life. This was the first time I seriously ran mad after the art. And again I was faced with a decision: either
continue to study or ... I decided to go straight to study at the Latvian Academy of Arts. I could not pass the entrance exam. I was advised to complete the preparatory courses. As a result I prepared and in the next year passed the entrance exams to the Academy. In addition, here I met with nicotine, alcohol and my future wife who had the greatest influence on the life and work in the future. She was also a reliable defence, and a person who believed in my talent and genius, when no one believed.
In 2001 I graduated from the academy and we with my wife began the life of
self-employed artists. There were many obstacles in their way, down to the hunger, poverty are often deprived the opportunity to participate in exhibitions, but neither me nor my wife had ever occurred to deviate from this path.
Even then I knew that my work will be exhibited around the world. I call my style as “psychedelic realism.”
As a result of titanic work, Sergey has emerged as an artist with a particular view of the world, which can be described as a break in reality that resonates with him.
